If you have a lot of credit cards and you are having a hard time managing them, you should freeze them, not close them. If you don’t have any idea of how to do that, don’t worry, that’s why we created this article to help you out. One of the solutions is to just simply freeze a credit card.
A lot of you had questions about how you can actually do so because perhaps it was the first time that you were hearing about it. We decided to create this article to clear your minds out and we are going to show you a couple of different ways that you can follow to freeze your credit card.
One of them is actually taking your cards and you can reach out to the bank. Just call them and ask for the operator and say, “Look, I’m looking to freeze my credit card.”
They’re going to ask you for how long you want to freeze it and if you’re not sure, that’s very simple: All you have to say is “Until I call you back,” and that’s it.
However, some of you might probably have a card that you’ve used so much and so many times that the 1-800 number might not appear anymore in the back of your card.
For that, all you have to do is a couple of things. You can either go into Google and all you have to do is just to type in the name of your bank and “customer service”.If your card is a Chase card, what you’re going to type is: “Customer service for Chase”.

All you gotta do is just to click on it and voila, there will be the 1-800 number. For example, if you don’t want to call, you’re more of a person that prefers to do everything electronically, and if so, there’s another option for you to do:
You can do that by just simply using your phone and it’s very easy. You have to make sure that you have the application for your credit card company, call it American Express or call it Discover.
Freeze your Credit Card using Bank Apps

You have your Discover application and you want to freeze your card, you don’t want to talk to anybody. You want to do it electronically and you can do that just with the simple push of a button.
Assuming you have a Discover card, all you’ve got to do is just to go to that option and you’re going to click on three dots that you will see on the screen, where you see ‘more’ and voila, that option it’s right there. All you have to do is just to select “freeze your account” and immediately you can press the orange button and you can just freeze it. That’s assuming you have a Discover card.
Let’s assume you have an American Express card and you also want to apply the same exercise. What you’re going to do is just going into the application and all you gotta do is to hit where it says ‘account’. Once you hit that, you’re going to have the same options that allow you to press the “freeze” or “unfreeze a card”.
Freeze your credit card: Think twice
Then, you can freeze it for as long as you want and for whenever you’re ready to get back and just continue to use your credit card.
Having these kinds of applications is the best way to do it. It’s faster than going personally to the bank and do a line and wait for a couple of minutes or hours. Older people feel more safe doing it by a phone call or straight on the bank.
The main idea is not to close a credit card because that will affect your credit history, your FICO score and your average years of credit if you have other credit cards. By freezing them, that will not affect any of these and you could activate them again whenever you feel safe and ready to start using that card again.
